Vietnam Tourism in Australia 2024
The roadshow offered a platform for industry professionals to deepen engagement, explore potential partnerships, and exchange insights on tourism trends and opportunities between Australia and Vietnam.
Over the years, Australia has become an increasingly popular and beloved destination for Vietnamese tourists. Building on the success of the 2023 Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Roadshow in Australia, which aimed to showcase and promote the vibrant tourism offerings of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City to the Australian travel industry and citizens, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Australia and the Consulate General of Vietnam in New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia, would host the Viet Nam – Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Roadshow in Australia 2024. This event was designed to further engage the Australian travel market, highlight the rich cultural and tourism experiences available in Vietnam, and expand opportunities for partnerships between Australian and Vietnamese stakeholders like Viet Star Cruises JSC. in the tourism sector.

The delegation from Vietnam, specifically Ho Chi Minh City, was led by Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee. Accompanying him are key leaders from various departments, including the Department of Tourism, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Transport, Department of Education and Training, Department of Information and Communications, Department of Healthcare, Department of Science and Technology, the Institute of Development Studies, the Investment and Trade Promotion Center, and the University of Technology. Additionally, over 25 representatives from Vietnam’s top airlines, tour operators, travel agencies, hotels, cruises, and healthcare services were part of the delegation.
In New South Wales, visitors could join a series of public activities (B2C) featuring over 25 booths showcasing the latest tourism products and services from Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City. Attendees could explore enticing travel deals, exclusive airfares, and experience the rich cultural heritage of Vietnam through live music performances, workshops on traditional Vietnamese arts and crafts like ‘tò he’ making and ‘nón lá’ (traditional Vietnamese cone hats) painting, and enjoy a variety of culinary delights from the region.

Australian enterprises had the opportunity to engage with leading Vietnamese airlines, tour operators, travel agents, and hotels in Ho Chi Minh City. This presented a unique chance to discover exclusive tourism products tailored for the Australian market and to foster bilateral visitor exchange. Business participants could also collect informative publications and special gifts from Vietnamese tourism destinations, while enjoying cultural music performances at the Vietnam – Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Promotion for Business (B2B) events, which was held at Parramatta Town Hall and Crown Towers Melbourne.
Australia has long been a crucial tourist market, consistently ranking among the top 10 sources of visitors for Ho Chi Minh City. This market holds significant potential for boosting tourism not only to Vietnam as a whole but especially to Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2019, before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed nearly 300,000 Australian tourists. Following the pandemic’s containment, the Australian market demonstrated a strong recovery. Despite Vietnam’s recent reopening to international travelers, over 130,000 Australian visitors arrived in 2022. This figure surged to more than 246,000 in 2023, accounting for approximately 3.5% of the city’s total international tourist arrivals.
“This is the second year that Capella Cruise can be presented at the show and with a sneak peak of a new ship to be launched next year. She’ll be a more refined version of Capella Cruise with new features. We are taking consideration into the suite design, too; and it promises stunning concepts. We’re confident that she’ll be the new favorite choice in the bays.” – Mrs. Quynh Nguyen, Managing Director of Vietstar Cruises shared.
